HUMOROUS POEMS
FLYING
Edel Wignell ©
Finalist in the Yellow Moon 'Nutshell' Competition for a humorous or nonsense poem.
Tell me, witch,
Why do you ride
Upon a bristly broom?
A vacuum cleaner's
Much more mod
And has a marvellous vroom.
A broom is light
And strong and neat;
It sweeps across the sky.
A vacuum cleaner's
Useless, dead -
Unless you electrify!
DOGGEREL
Edel Wignell ©
'Here's a doggy saying,'
The hound said to the frog.
'A dog can have a flea,
But a flea can't have a dog.'
THE REINDEER BAKERY
Edel Wignell ©
'It's festival time,'
Said the buck to the doe.
'You make the cakes
And I'll make the dough.'
DROUGHT
Edel Wignell ©
Finalist in the Yellow Moon 'Seed Pearls' Literary Competition - Nature Poem
It's so-o-o dry out here,
The garden's almost fried;
The vegetables are baked
And the herbs are ready-dried.
It's so-o-o dry out here,
The vineyard's in decline;
Sultanas for a cake
Come straight from the vine.
It's so-o-o dry out here,
The dust's as smooth as silk;
The thirsty cows, needing drinks,
Are giving powdered milk.
